Find a roommate, maybe 2 or 3 roommates.

There's absolutely no way to live on $600.00 a month in Hawaii. Outside of Manhattan, Honolulu, Hawaii (or anywhere in Hawaii) is the most expensive place to live in the US. The only options you would have are:
1. Join the ranks of the welfare. However, this should not be a goal for any person with integrity. Although of course there are those that need it.
2. You can look in the Newspapers for estates that need caretakers and in exchange give room and board. There are also many snow birds (people that have homes in Hawaii but only live in them 2 - 3 months out of the year) that need house sitters. This also would be rent free. You need good references for these jobs. You can also post an ad for this type of position in the newspaper.
3. You can look for room mates for cheap rent.
In order to live in Hawaii, many people have to work 2 or 3 jobs to get by, and sometimes have several roommates or rent out a bed room.
4. Right now unemployment is very low in Hawaii. There are all kinds of jobs available. There are a lot of construction jobs on the Big Island. Because the population keeps growing, there and lots of homes being built.
If you have an income of $600.00 a month, you will have to add to it some how in order to live in Hawaii or else end up with the many homeless, which even with a warm climate is definitely no way to live. You would probably end up with the homeless which mostly include the druggies. Hawaii, particularly the Big Island, has the highest users per capita of ice users (meth) than any place in the United States. Don't get carried away with fantasizing about living on the beaches. Even so called "Paradise" has its woes; and if you're living in Hawaii on $600.00 a month, you're going to discover all of them. The government polices the beaches all the time to keep the homeless out. Do you think they want the tourists to see this. Tourism is their industry.

It's very unlikely that one can do so and expect to maintain a minimum quality of life. To put this into perspective, you will be living on a daily budget of $19.72 per day! Which equates to an hourly wage of $3.45 per hour! That is, if your $600.00 per month is net income and not gross. If it were gross, kiss 30% of it goodbye even though you'll get it all back in the form of tax refunds - that's cash you could use up front.

Good luck.

I've heard that there are homeless people in Hawaii. This is a lifestyle that works because:
a) Food grows on trees and plants.
b) The climate is mild, so you won't die of exposure.

Are you willing to have a hunter-gatherer lifestyle?

no way! unless you want to live in a tent! if you are lucky, you can get a tiny dingy studio for 600.00 in kalihi (not the greatest place)
but for normal living, 600.00 is out of the question. rent costs 1000.00 for a one bedroom

Get on welfare. In the past Hawaii is ranked the biggest welfare state in the country and still is close.

I'm not sure you can live on $600 a month anywhere in the USA. Try Thailand or maybe Mexico.
