What sort of things do you or would you report?
I would report anything that has to do with hurting children or physically threatening someone.

You report factual stuff ONLY. Not here say and not emotional stuff. If someone is being attacked or abused or committing a crime- report it.

Confession is good specially if it will help you or others in taking off any baggages on your shoulders, You confess your weaknesses to a priest or a psychologist and even psychiatrist so you could be guided as to what you should do to stop yourself from falling apart.. Reporting a case or a scene that you think will endanger anyone from being physically or mentally abused is not a confession but a report and it is not only good for the souls but for the safety of the victim

To confess helps you to cleanse your soul. Often when we ask God for His forgiveness, He has already forgiven us., That's when we ourselves have to learn to forgive ourselves for our wrong doing. That's not always easy. Confession helps us to open up and get it all out so that we can lay it down and let God handle it.

No, you don't report on the sins committed by other people that you witnessed.
You look deep inside yourself and recount times that you did things that you are ashamed of.
