Hi, my name is Ken and I am a Junior in highschool. I have been in drama since my freshman year. I have always had one of the main roles. Last year I had to master the "Hick" or "Country" accent...but this year I must have a British accent and im having a little trouble. Does anyone have any information like websites or tips for me trying to learn this accent...

Thanks alot,
Ken

watch nothing but Benny Hill reruns non-stop for about a month...you have it in no time....Only half kidding..it's best to immerse yourself in the culture....I was stationed there for a number of years and it's amazing to me how Americans and English speak the same words but how we put them together can be such a puzzle?

If you should not have the time to uncover a category there also are a few first-class books with CD's available in the market. A few of them are Accents: A Manual for Actors- Revised and Expanded Edition through Robert Blumenfeld Stage Dialects through Jerry Blunt They too can support you someday for different varieties of dialects/acccents. They lay the whole thing out very obviously. Check out any book place or Amazon

Hmm, I had to learn a British accent once. It helps to surround yourself with other people speaking with one - and I mean genuine British actors whenever possible. Watch "My Fair Lady" to start.

Its mostly on the control of your breath as you speak, it does take some practice but be thankful you don't have to learn Cockney
