A person's deeds has nothing to do with them going to heaven or hell. It doesn't matter if the world calls them heroes or terrorists. What does Jesus call them? Does Jesus call them by name or does Jesus say 'I don't know you'?
What really matters is weither or not a person knows the forgiveness of God. The forgivness of God is Jesus. It doesn't matter who we are, if we don't know Jesus we are toast.
There is only one way to the Father and that is through Jesus. If we deny Jesus we deny the Father as well.
We are born sinful. Without the cleansing of Jesus Christ's blood we will all go to hell. That is a fact. Believe it or don't believe it, that is our choice. If we don't believe in Jesus we don't believe we can be forgiven.

Salvation is not based on works.
Eph. 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; [9] not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Instead your works are the basis of your rewards or punishments after death:
1 Corinthians 3:11-15 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds upon the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire; and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. 14 If any man's work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire.
Your actions in this life are also evidence used by God at the Judgement, which shows withether or not your faith was real.
Matthew 25:44-46 "Then they themselves also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?' 45 "Then He will answer them, saying, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46 "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
The Bible says nothing about heros getting a pass for their sins because they were heros in this life. If they did get such a pass, you would not like that either, because of this: How high must the bar be set to determine who is worthy and who is not? Who was heroic enough, and who was not to get this magical pass? If there were a great hero who died saving the lives of multiplied thousands, but at home he was a terrible drunk and wife beater, and child abuser, would you grant him a pass for his sins against his wife and children? I suspect not. So where is the bar to be set for heros? You cannot say, and neither can I.
All I can say are the words of Jesus:
John 3:3
Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Unless you are born again, not only will you not enter into the Kingdom of heaven, you will not even see it; hero or not.

You can twist and turn all you want.
The reality is that we all come to the moment where we're standing in front of the one true God and have to answer the most important question of our existence: Have you accepted salvation of your eternal soul thru the sacrifice of Jesus, Christ and Savior?
God seems pretty clear on the importance of the question. And equally clear on the destinations for both acceptance (heaven) and rejection (hell).
Christianity is not "out of touch".

First of all, no one is in hell right now and we're not the ones who get to decide who goes to hell and who goes to heaven. that's god's decision. It also takes more than just believing in order to be saved. Mark 16:16 --"He who believeth AND is BAPTIZED shall be saved...he who believeth not shall be condemned." I let the bible dictate what I believe and what i do. If the people who died on 9/11 werent in the right relationship with god, then certainly he wouldnt show them mercy come judgement day.

I think you are out of touch. If God is truly a just God, it doesn't matter what someone does in their life. A judge won't care how good your life is, if commit murder he will pass sentance on you for that one instance. If God truly is just, then He will punish according to the Law set down in the Bible. Jesus died as a final atonement for sin. If any of the heroes believed that Jesus did this and they lived by Jesus' example, then God had mercy on them just like He says he will.

Good question and that's one thing I never understood about Christanity. Bad people could end up in heaven and good people end up in hell. I wonder if that's where the phrase "in like sin" came from?

Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita "Whatever ones consciousness is at the time of death they are sure to attain.' So if they thought of Christ, or God Krishna, Allah, Jehovah Yes they could. I am not sure about the terrorists though. That part is questionable to me. They may have to come back and get their Karma and have a chance to try again but not eternal world. That just wouldn't make sense to me. If they where chanting Gods name at death Allah they do get some type of liberation but. It is said when the daemons think of God at the time of death they get a type of liberation that is merging with Gods energy (laying dormant for millions of years) but eventually fall back to the earth planet to try again for God realizing. It's ignorant to believe that if someone doesn't accept your religious beliefs they are doomed to hell. Are the 6 million Jews slaughtered in hell? It's great you have your religious beliefs but it doesn't mean it's correct for everyone else. Try to believe in heroes and not religious martyrs

We don't know their hearts or what they were thinking at those last moments. Who's to say which ones made it to heaven. Guess we'll know when we get there.
