Hello jyb, I understand what you are saying. Next time the both of you are together (alone) then just say something like ,,,,,"I really do appreciate your friendship and was wondering if you would like to be steady?" This is a polite way of telling him that you are fond of him and the time he spends with you and it is also a mild way of saying ,,,,, do you want to be my boyfriend? And after you tell him that verse then he will share his opinion. Take care.

Give him a discreet little kiss. You will know by his reaction if he feels the same way. If he doesn't react well, you can always play it off like a joke.
