So I asked this question
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgRbzQi6.CsJKAVYiFtL3Dfsy6IX?qid=20061108154726AAb8nN1

I believe that God looks at C&B's life as a marraige moreso than J&R.
Some believe that because J&R have the legal paperwork and have gone through the legal ceremony, they are more married. Does this mean you believe God has a legalist view of marraige?

Jesus says "So they are no longer two, but one, what God has joined together let man not seperate." He did not say, "What man decides is joined together let man not seperate."

J&R have satisfied the requirement for what constitute of being married. The two on the other hand have failed to live up to the Bible's principle of maintianing a good marriage.

C&B seems to be on the right path in abiding with the complete Biblical notion of marriage.

There are some things in the Bible God made black and white so there would be no confusion. I do not know precisely what He meant. However Paul said that wives should submit to their husbands even when the husband is not fulfilling his duty which is to love his wife no matter what (this part is usually overlooked). It is a two way street and both husband and wife have a duty to each other. Only God has the final say in what is allowed.
I believe that marriage is going through the cerimony and making that a contract. Let your yes be yes.

Marriage is a grace that God gives to us. There are legalisms involved, but those are for our protection, not His satisfaction.

Sadly, because mankind is fallen and absolute sinners to the core, men have historically taken advantage of women and oppressed them. Women, on the other hand have taken advantage of men. Both have used and abused the other in horrible ways.

Because of this, legal measures are necessary. Today more than ever, people who enter into marriage are likely to need a prenuptual agreement, but only because divorce is so promenent in society.

Is God legalistic? 1 Tim. 1:8-113
But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, [9] realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers [10] and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, [11] according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

So then, we see that the law is necessary because of the sinfulness of mankind. If we were righteous, the law would not be necessary.

If there is a God ( and i say if for you non believers lol )
then I am sure that where there is happiness in the home ... that is where God can be found
not where there lies some document signed by an appointed minister

humans have existed for thousands of years, and marriage only became a church sacrement 1000 years ago, and it is still not required that you marry within the confines of religion...it has been and always will be a property contract.

Since it is impossible to demonstrate the existence of god, it is also impossible to demonstrate any position that god might have about marriage -- or anything else.
