Federal HYDRA-SHOK 147 grain.
Now, you need to make sure it works and feeds well and shoots fairly accurately in you own weapon, just like they all said. If it does, you have selected a powerful 9mm round with superior stopping power and proven reliability that is commonly available at most shops. No point in choosing an ammo you can't find.
I recommend you stock up and quick. Nasty Nancy Pelosi will be taking that pistol away from you real soon if she gets her way.

My personal preference is Glazer ammo. I like it because it won't ricochet and it doesn't over penetrate. the over penetration is a factor in defense ammo because you don't want a round to go through your intended target and hit an innocent bystander. Also, Glazer is a proven man stopper. The stuff is pretty expensive when you consider its price per round but you won't be using it for target practice, You only need to buy enough rounds to fill your clip. You can usually find it in most well equipped gun shops and they usually sell it in 6 round packages. Another good defense round is Hydro Shok. If you miss your intended target, the Hydro Shok doesn't fragment like the Glazer will so ricocheting rounds are a consideration. On the other hand, it is also an excellent man stopper.

that depends on where you anticipate your need... for outdoor altercation resolution, federal hydroshock with a +p load... assuming your pistol will handle the pressures... not all can... if you live in an apartment housing project that ain't to safe, you may want to go with standard velocity hollow points... preferably with a frangilbe bullet... last thing you want is a stray bullet going through a wall and killing a child in bed... avoid full metal jacket (aka ball ammo)... they are notorious for over penetrating their target... passing through and not stopping it... remember, don't pull it unless you intend to use it... and if you use it, know your target, shoot to kill, you may not get a second shot...

Instead of asking other peoples opinions for a weapon YOU will be shooting, do the smart thing and try various brands of defensive ammo until you find the one YOU, the actual shooter, will like the best, what may work GREAT in my pistol may be a sloppy hitter in your pistol, and vice versa. I personally use either cor-bons, winchester silvertips, or speer gold dot.

Depends. Some feed better'n others. Some shoot more accurately. Best thing to do is reseach each (Evan Marshall has done some good stuff on stopping power), get a box of what interests you, and try 'em out. Here's his site:

Cor-Bon +p. Fast and light so it wont go through the bad guy and kill your kid in the next room. Kids tend to frown on being killed.
