Which role is most critical to problem solving mediator or advocate? And why?

mediator since they seek resolution with no bias.

An advocate is the same as an ally.

It depends if the problem is with ones self or with another person. If it's a problem between two people or a group of people I'd say a mediator is the best because they are not taking anybody's side. If it's a self problem then an advocate might be a bit more helpful.

Each role has it's place in the process.

The mediator acts as a go-between, not really on one side or the other, but facilitates the process of reconcilliation.

The advocate takes one position or the other, pro or con, for or against.

Neither is more critical, they just have different roles in the process.

They don't have anything to do with eachotehr from what I've learned in school.
A mediator negotiates an argument, a settlement between the parties.
An advocate, i thought, was someone who likes, or approves of something.

Since a Mediator is the problem solver, I would think the mediator.

a mediator listens to both sides of an arguement and makes decisions based on both an advocate represents just one side of any arguement. Therefore, the mediator is most critical to problem solving.

Mediator would be more important in problem solving. Advocate takes your side. Mediator is to be neutral, objective and just.

the mediator mediates a middle way acceptable to all parties ,giving the people advocating one side or advocating the other a mediated peace

mediator is a kind of referee. listens to both sides. tries to bring a solution

advocate knows you and stands in your defense

more support comes from an advocate
