I go to a dermatologist, and I'm 35. I got acne later in life. First thing they told me to do was buy a Cetaphil bar. It'll cost you about $3 at Target. I use it 3x a day and my teenagers use it too. Stay away from the drying and stinging stuff. They will irritate your skin. I ended up having to take an antibiotic for my acne, but it really worked. I would recommend trying the cetaphil and if you end up going to the Dr remember that they usually give lots of samples! Be honest with them and tell them you can't spend a lot of money. Good luck.

Dermatologists can be good however it depends on the right dermatologist..because some just want your money....Ive been for acne and the dermalogist i had wasn't good, and gave me a soap to use for my skin it didn't work. Like i said depends on the right dermatologist. They can help with any skin problem you have if there good. The cost depends. Insurance helps. Prices can be costly, so you might want to buy products and trying them instead of going to a proffesional. Products like neutrogena, noxzema, clearasil are acne fighters..proactive is widely known but can irritate some people's skin. Make sure read products carefully..

If you have MILD acne, they might perscibe you some pills (of which I cannot think of the name right now) or Retin-A (which is EXTREMLY costly, but what they generally throw at you.
I think the medicine worked well, since I had insurnace and wasn't paying for it. Otherwise, for mild acne, I can recommend some store bought products that have really helped me. E-mail me if you wanna know.
A visit to most dermatologists will probably around $200+ because they're considered "specialists"

You should not have to see a dermatologist for mild acne.
You should be able to manage the acne with a good facial cleansing routine and possibly some topical antibiotics and anti-acne creams you can buy from the chemist.
A dermatology consultation will be expensive and just as helpful as a discussion with your local pharmacist. The local pharmacist (chemist)'s advice is probably going to be free.

You will be charged a first time exam charge which can be high. Then they would probably give you a prescription and you have to pay for that. If your acne is only mild, just use over the counter stuff. Pro Active really works.

my best friend had acne, and thought about going to a dermatologist, but before she did, she tried pro-active, the stuff you see all the celebrities advertise on t.v. and it really cleared up her skin. and the cost of it was less than one visit to the dermatologist. It would probably work for you too, and save you some money.

When I posted a question that got no answers I deleted it myself upon the "heads up" notice and then re-posted it as new. No one goes back more than 2 pages or so, so if you don't get a hit in the first couple of days chances are no one is going to see your question. Best to post it new so it's right there on the front page!

mild acne.
yes, make an appointment, you go there sit down and the doctor will ask you if you have used any medications or what kind of face wash etc. then he will prescribe you something, it can be a topical medication or antibiotics, it depends on your skin tho.
for me, the medication was $37 (i had 2)
