Dawn Original dishwashing liquid if you must clean them - best to heat up a bathroom sink full of warm (not hot) water dip all four of your cat's paws in the sink.

squirt all four paws (this doesn't have to be neat) with Dawn, massage it into the fur/feet -- wrap your cat in a towel and sit down to watch TV for a few minutes.

Work your cat's feet through the towel to help break up the oil/gunk deposits

Take cat back to bathroom sink, dip all four feet in (if possible - by now your cat might be a bit cranky with you) one paw at a time soap up the feet, squeeze them off, dry them off with the towel and repeat if necessary.

Good luck....if this is axel grease -- it's going to take two-three human washings -- you really don't want your cat eating the gunk and ingesting this stuff if you can at all avoid it.

Happy Tails!!!

Birds that are covered in oil are rescued and bathed in something such as Dawn dishwashing soap to remove the oil from their bodies. It shouldn't be too hard to do the same with your cat's paws. Just be sure to trim the nails before you start!

I would use dawn dishsoap. It's what the wildlife volunteers use to clean oil off from penguins when oil tankers crash and spill. Just be sure to rinse the cat's feet off really well, since soap and oil are both hard to get out from between kitty toes. :)

I would suggest dish washing liquid soap. This is what they use when animals get crude oil stuck on them from oil spills. Just remember to rinse, rinse, rinse.

Use shampoo. Human shampoo is fine as long as it is thoroughly rinsed.

That will do the trick for poor kitty!
