To judy_r8 "why do some people who do believe in God insist on insulting people who don't? why do you insist on trying to make them join your stupid, bigoted religion?". That's not true, i don't, and did i say anything about you joining my religion? I bet you don't even know what religion I am.

To rhsauders - "As an atheist, it is not my policy to insult believers beyond pointing out their demonstrable ignorance. Their beliefs are a waste of time (provable)" <<< What do you mean provable? There is no way of you knowing what is to happen in the afterlife.

To tori - I agree that it's an open forum and atheists have the right to be here as well. I'm talking about the ones who come on specifically to insult the religion. I don't mind questions, or people who wonder why certain religions do certain things etc etc etc, but when people purposely make stupid comments just for a joke.

To kjhgfdsghjkljhgdfhj: Why is that offensive? It just means that people are so strong in faith that they are willing to die for it, and if any of their brothers and sisters are in trouble, their willing to die for them.

I want everyone to understand something here. I don't insult people who don't believe the same thing as me, and notice i asked why SOME people do that. I don't mean these people in general, just the rude ones who make stupid remarks just for a joke. Another thing, I don't feel superior or anything to people who don't believe in God, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. It's just a simple question.

If only they took they weren't misguided.

[030:051] And if We send a wind [which would spoil the green growth (tilth) brought up by the previous rain], and they see (their tilth) turn yellow – behold, they then (after their being glad) would become unthankful (to their Lord Allâh as) disbelievers. (Tafsir At-Tabari)

[030:052] So verily, you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) cannot make the dead to hear (i.e. the disbelievers), nor can you make the deaf to hear the call, when they show their backs and turn away.

[030:053] And you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) cannot guide the blind from their straying; you can make to hear only those who believe in Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and have submitted to Allâh in Islâm (as Muslims).

[030:054] Allâh is He Who created you in (a state of) weakness, then gave you strength after weakness, then after strength gave (you) weakness and gray hair. He creates what He wills. And it is He Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful (i.e. Able to do all things).

[030:055] And on the Day that the Hour will be established, the Mujrimûn (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners) will swear that they stayed not but an hour – thus were they ever deluded [away from the truth (i.e. they used to tell lies and take false oaths, and turn away from the truth) in this life of the world].

[030:056] And those who have been bestowed with knowledge and Faith will say: "Indeed you have stayed according to the Decree of Allâh, until the Day of Resurrection; so this is the Day of Resurrection, but you knew not."

[030:057] So, on that Day no excuse of theirs will avail those who did wrong (by associating partners in worship with Allâh, and by denying the Day of Resurrection), nor will they be allowed (then) to return to seek Allâh's Pleasure (by having Islâmic Faith with righteous deeds and by giving up polytheism, sins and crimes with repentance).

[030:058] And indeed We have set forth for mankind, in this Qur'ân every kind of parable. But if you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) bring to them any sign or proof (as an evidence for the truth of your Prophethood), the disbelievers are sure to say (to the believers): "You follow nothing but falsehood and magic."

[030:059] Thus does Allâh seal up the hearts of those who know not [the proofs and evidence of the Oneness of Allâh, i.e. those who try not to understand true facts that which you (Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) have brought to them].

[030:060] So be patient (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]). Verily, the Promise of Allâh is true; and let not those who have no certainty of Faith discourage you from conveying Allâh's Message (which you are obliged to convey).

I agree with what you are saying, and could agree with you. But you need to tell it to those that believe in God and are over in LBGT telling them they are all going to hell or they have a choice, no matter what the question. They are your kind and doing the same thing.

I think the war front here, saves the people over there from some insults when they are just looking for real answers.

As a non believer I am willing to leave anyone alone with their beliefs. Until they start judging the rest of us, or telling me how to live my life.

Because we who believe have something they need, but they are to scared to admit it or do anything about it. Our lives are too great a challenge for them, because they do not have the guts to make the decisions we have had to or to live the lifestyle we have chosen. So, they just sit at their computers and take cheap pot-shots, then winge when someone complains or reports them. They want to hold on to their petty bigotry and hatred, their double standards and hypocrisy. They get a kick out of innuendo, insult and slander. It is all little sparks of passion in their sad, empty lives.

I wonder how you feel about me, a pagan?
There is more than one belief out there you know.
This is not the Christians Only section, and anyone who wants to is allowed to be in the R&S category.
How many times have you clicked on a Q about paganism or Wicca and said something insulting?
It happens all the time. I have learned to ignore it.
If you don't like it, don't come to this category.

A better question would be

"Why do the misguided sheep who believe in a god waste their time coming here trying to 'convert' the clear thinking people who have already considered the whole religion thing and rightly concluded that it's all a load of mediaeval superstition?"

I get told this all the time, because I tell people it's their own business what they want to think, and then I argue with them about God. The thing is, it never just stays in their head. Their belief in religion stems from ignorance, and it influences important views and opinions. For instance, Abortion, Condom use, war, politicians that they vote for, ect, ect. You say we don't respect you, and you're right. I refuse to take any person who denies every piece of observable, quantitative and empirical evidence that exists in this world. All the evidence points against God, and all theists have left are flimsy anecdotal pieces of evidence. We insult you because you have eyes and you still remain blind. We insult you because you live in a golden age of science where people can survive with cancer, breach holes in the sky and walk on the moon, and you still believe a book that was writing a couple of thousands of years ago by Semitic Nomads. Come on! That goes past idiotic. And then you act as though we don't have lives? Like we have nothing better to do than to argue with you? You know what? I argue with people like you out of empathy. I pity you for your ignorance, and I desperately wish to take you from it so that you will be able to see the beauty of the real world. The one that exists.

This site is meant to be an open forum. The idea is that someone can ask a legitimate spiritual or religous question and get a variety of answers from varying viewpoints. Atheists have just as much a right to be here as any faith.

What no side has a right to do is belittle the other and kill intellectual dialogue. Questions that are deliberately inflammatory to either side are wrong. But the fault does not lie explicitly within atheists, nor does it lie explicitly within the religious.

2006-11-08 11:02:13 · answer #7 · answered by Tori 2 · 10 1

They don't waste their time, they trying to get rid of ignorance. Look at all the religious wars, the deaths the destruction. Look what belief in an all mighty deity has brought to you. Nothing but chaos and destruction. There's a reason why when religion reigned supreme in Europe it's called the dark ages. Look at all the Christians who waste their time preaching to a dead god. Look at the hate that they spread, look at the ignorance. It's not that atheist that wastes their time its the theist. Religion was a major factor in the destruction of the glorious empires of the past and it will again.

Plus you have plenty of sites that insult us.Also you sites misrepresent other religions. You claim to have an unbiased insight into other religions. But, wait watch the "Christian" channel and listen to the hate mongers. You yourselves don't respect other people's beliefs. Why should you expect respect in return? You're just ridden with hypocrisy.

[My logic is flawed with the fallacy of generalization but, your question had it too so its justified.]

I can only assume it is because like those that do believe, they have their own opinion. Of course ranting about something you don't agree with is better ?
Reading these answers is very enlightening. I never realised that so called believers could be so far against their so-called beliefs. You are taught to treat others how you would wish to be treated yourselves yet poke fun at a group of people you all obviously feel superior too.
Typically full of contradiction, no wonder you struggle. Shame, you could learn the ideals, but swallow the book in trying.

Because it makes them feel superior. I would welcome a genuine question and often answer them, but unfortunately most come to scoff.
However, Christians themselves can be deeply offensive.
It's the nature of the workd, I suppose. We all like to believe we know it all. It's no skin off my nose if you believe something different to me. BTW those people that come knocking on the door - I simply say "no thank you" and they go away. I don't argue, they're no more annoying than somene trying to sell me something.
It certainly isn't worth getting upset over.

Because they think that the whole idea of faith is wrong as they say one cannot prove the existence of afterlife and god, therefore one cannot check it through experience and as in science, theory is not good enough. They don't have feelings connected to others' faith, so it is fun for some of them to stir a bit and see reaction of religious people just 'to make them think' as they say and make them angry, so if one just ignores them thats the best one can do, otherwise its only believers who feel offended in the end, not them.
God bless
