I have four cats and we went around with this thing last year. The vet said at first it was mites but none of my other cats had it.The liquid he gave me did nothing. Then he said it was a yeast infection. He gave me antibiotic ear drops.I always thought antibiotics cause yeast infections? Anyway, that didn't work either.
Now that same cat only has some goo in his ear. I cleaned it out with a Q tip dipped in peroxide. Some black dots and some yellow murkey stuff came out.
Anyone have any suggestions ?

Your vet may be right. My parents had a cat that had a very stubborn yeast infection in her ears. Her ears were all gooey and smelled bad and they had to put this liquid medication in them for several days. Cleaning them out with a Qtip and peroxide is a good idea, my mom did that and it helped alot. YOu may also want to try pure Tea Tree Oil, it's a natural antifungal from Australia. It can be found at your drug store by the first aid products. Be persistent and keep at it. It may take several days to weeks. Good Luck.

Use cotton wool pad and moisten with warm water, squeeze out any excess and wipe the OUTER ear clean.

NEVER use cotton wool buds as the tips can come off and get stuck in the ear canal. Also Q tips encourage poking down the ear which is also not good.Delving into a cat's ear too much can also be a source of further irritation.

Never go down the cat's ear too deeply.

Could be a bacterial thing. My pug and one of my cats had the same thing (at different times). Looks like earmites, but apparently it's different under the microscope. Antibiotics (both oral and eardrop) cleared it right up in both cases.

You might try using one of the "drying" ear cleaning solutions (avail. at the pet store). Something like Epi-Otic or ??? See if a few cleanings (once every few days) takes care of it or not. If not... I guess the vet is back in order. Good luck.

Try flushing her ears out with an equal mix of peroxide, alcohol and witch hazel. Do this daily for at least a week to see if it starts working.

If it is a yeast type infection you can use white vinegar to flush out the ears.
