Oh and for the person who potsed the previous answer:

The Roman Empire lasted for over a thousand years from about 600BC and can be considered the greatest empire of all times. Spreading from the Middle East to Britian, from the North of Germany to the depths of Africa.

The Roman empire, very cleverly remoulded and incorporated a revised model of Christianity as a means of social control, as the Roman empire started to collapse, the improvised stature and ridgidness of dogma increased to further maintain order, this systematic tool of government and absolute authority was retained and mirrored across Europe after the Roman empire collapsed and is still prevalent today in the fundamentalist mindset.

For example the Nicene Creed of Christianity, which is still practised today, is the direct result of a decision by the Roman Emperor Constantine to form a State religion to satisfy secular political imperatives of his time.

There is little doubt that in the course of such a process many of the deeper spiritual beliefs and insights espoused by Jesus were dispensed with as they were either misunderstood, or presented a real threat to the power and authority of the Roman Emperor.

Perennial esoteric spiritual concepts such as the essential unity or "oneness" of the Universe and the immortality of the Soul associated with reincarnation, the references to which where completely removed by Justinian in 553, to gain even more social control, by the promotion of a "one chance to get it right or face eternal damnation" view that proved effective in maintaining social control, whilst the Roman empire began to dissolve.

Constantine and Justinian's influence were significant and politically motivated in altering the original teachings of Jesus and has further developed through the centuries, by modern reformers into a simplistic faith system, that is clearly incompatible with Jesus's original message.

Rather then being dull and idiotic, the Romans used political science in a very expert and intelligent way, they laid the groundwork for policies and principles that are still prevelant today in both social, political and religious mainstreams, the effects of which is open to further debate pertaining to the ramifications of such interference, especially the pollution of absolute truth and universal principle.

What do you mean "switch"?????? They're basically the same, just different names. That's why it was so easy for Constantine to make it legal in Rome (he did not make it the Religion of Rome). In this way, he got more recruits for his army in order to take over the Roman Empire completely as there were 2 "emporers" at the time.

Well, the term idiot is more of an opinion than a fact, but yeah, there probably is a reason that their civilization only lasted about 200 years.

And the non-idiotic belief that you're keeping secret from everyone is what?

That is, it is all well and good to attack people who are not here to defend themselves, but wouldn't it be at least courteous to offer what you believe to be genius if you are charging others with idiocy?

They just weren't very imaginative when it came to religion. they borrowed their poly theistic religion from the Greeks and their Christianity from the Palestinians. They were spiritually enslaved by the people they conquered.
