Wow ! That's a very serious point you make. It's very important to get the right answer. Now you have set me thinking.
No, I havn't noticed before, but now of course I shall be examining the matter carefully.

In my experience it is the people who don't believe in God that take things too seriously - they seem SO anxious to disprove the existence of God, almost obsessively in many cases. What is it that is getting at them?

Depends on what you mean by "things". Everyone has their own perspective on what constitutes taking things "too seriously" not to mention what things should be taken seriously.
Belief in God or no, some people take EVERYTHING too seriously.

If honest, I dont go around asking the serious ones if they believe in god, or the daft ones if they dont. Like any group there will be those that are and those that are'nt, its human nature.
As an athiest I suddenly feel slightly guilty for answering in a sensible tone : ) ... * Daft Dance *

We give serious answers to questions, but, believe you me, we know how to PARTY! Just come along to one of our worship sessions. Not only will you leave feeling really happy and great, but you won't have a hangover the following morning either. We have fun, because we learn how to really love and care for one another. We can relax and be ourselves, because we are totally accepted for who and what we are. The Holy Spirit gives you a high better than any drug.

Well yes...spending eternity in hell is kind of a serious issue for us dumb believers. Have you ever noticed how people who don't believe in God still feel the need to ridicule those who do? What are you trying to prove?

We used to be forced to go to church twice on a Sunday. The minister and his cronies would sit their looking all pious and holy. The minute the church-door closed behind them some of them would head off to the beach and check us as young girls in our bikinis out. Two-faced people. All holy and preachy but never stick their hands in the dirt to help others.

Here is what I believe........
Christians - By Maya Angelou
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!
