Church membership has drastically reduced compared to those born before the babyboomer generation. Both things are associated as we have blatant consumerism present within many religons

I agree. Consumerism is the newest religion. Too many people worship the Almighty Dollar and everything it is used to purchase.

Perhaps understanding is replacing ignorance, and ppl are tiring of paying troll tolls for unnecessary spiritual repairs. When churches "hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches" in Galatians (the book written "unto the churches"), then perhaps it will be safe to go to a church that is grace us, not awful lawful.

It does say ;

As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot, they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded,
But the same day Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.
Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Looks like that day is getting closer.

Boy it would be nice if it did. Imagine how peaceful our world would be without religious zealots and bigots... Unfortunately I think both religion and consumerism can and do co-exist.

yes. buying things makes people feel better about themselves. Want is immediately satisfied. Trouble is like all quick fixes, it doesn't last long, and pretty soon you need another fix.
