i have to do a paper over "la folie" in l'aventure ambigue (a book by a francophone author)...can someone just please explain to me what la folie is and how it applies to life in general, what its characteristics are, how its used in literature, etc. Thank you so much!!

It means madness, and is used in much the same way as in English. . . to drive too fast. . c'est 'la folie'. . .to spend too much on clothes etc etc. Not so much madness as in 'rage' or anger which would be 'cholere'
Also used in English for a strange kind of madness, called 'Folie a deux' when two apparentl sane people become insane when in each others company

"folie" means "madness"

I think the author felt that there was a lot of real madness among teenagers in her country, Senegal, and became fascinated by it.

as for the rest, it'll be a more interesting paper if you relate the book to how YOU feel about madness in daily life.
