The ones that are typically bothersome...my cat is sneezing can I give it some of my medicine? My cat has diarrhea what do I do? They rarely qualify that a vet is an option--lack of money and obviously they are looking for a freebie fix here rather than trusting an educated licensed animal doctor. Am I not alone?

torbaynewf, you offer good answers, don't give up and let those who are too lazy or ignorant get to you. It's people like you, Seattle, Old Cat Lady, Katrina L, and many others that makes this place worth coming to. I'm just sick of the something for nothing attitudes.

2006-11-08 10:45:19 · update #1

Bonsylar, you have made a valid point, however I am directing this towards those who have a history with pet animals based on their previous questions.

2006-11-08 10:48:02 · update #2

Old Cat Lady, the sad fact is that many people don't know there's low income animal care options and many treat animals as possessions not living, breathing, feeling creatures. They're seen as disposable and treat them accordingly.

Stalkers_Love_Me, I like both cats and dogs since I have both. Dog is a Westie named Rusty. By the way, I like how you also check the person who post questions other questions. You do your homework...like the person named Ivy who has a sick cat and can't afford a vet but wants a chihuahua which they're willing to pay for????

2006-11-08 10:55:01 · update #4

BTW the Westie was dumped 4 times by the age of 4 month before it found it's way to me as the last person was allergic to him. He wasn't neutered and no one wanted to deal with housebreaking him either.

Yes...I think I am losing it tonight. You would think that people would actually think of using this site to LEARN something, and not to post another stupid question that 50 others have asked the same week.
I think 90% of these questions fall into two catagories........
either "Bored people that ask something stupid" or the "Don't wanna spend a cent on the pet so I will ask someone I don't know over the internet".
I hope there are not people in the "Health" venue that ask things like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I am saddened that the overpopulation problem will NEVER be solved. I work at a cat shelter. We spay/neuter 20 cats daily. 5 days a week. Have been doing it for 5 years. NO DIFFERENCE in the area we are in. The poor people just get MORE cats and dogs and then they let them breed also. It never stops. They all know where the low cost clinic is too. we have some idiots that we had fixed over 10 cats for, and a year later, many of them have NEW animals!!! It is never going to change. We have spayed them for free, taken them away from them, the Health Dept has been on their case....and they STILL get more pets!!!!! And 60% of these people are like the ones on here and SHOULD NOT own pets. They have no reason to take them to the vet!!! If it dies...get another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ignorant questions! LOL!!
A better question is why don't they pay attention to the "similar questions" feature? Think of all the trouble folks could save themselves.
I get your question though. Remember that not everyone is knowledgeable about pets and their health. You may know all the answers and deal with this on a daily basis, but a lot of folks have never owned a cat (dog, iguana, whatever) before. Never experienced sneezing kitties (or whatever), and are just curious as to what's going on. They, for the most part, want to know if they need a vet or if this is normal and they will get over it.
Then again, I'm a gullible optimist and see the best in everyone, so that might be my problem.
Cheers.

It's sad that so many people don't have the money to go to the vet. Times are tough, but people love & need the comfort of their pets more than ever at such times. Sometimes they are seeking free advice because they are down to their last $20 & need gas to get to work so they can earn grocery money. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all afford everything we NEED?

I don't mind the ones searching for health care advice or home remedy help - at least they are trying to get help. The questions I hate are the 'My dog is pregnant - how many days will that last? Any u ppl wanna buy any of my Beagle-Maltese-poos?' UGH - people, if you don't have clue, do the right thing - SPAY & NEUTER YOUR PETS! Leave the breeding to the experts & quit helping overfill the shelters. Sheesh!

By the way - it generally costs more to raise a litter than spaying or neutering. Between this & the fact there are many low cost spay/neuter clinics & humane societies that will help out with costs, there is NO EXCUSE to not spay or neuter. So I don't buy the 'My cat is pregnant again but I can't afford to have her spayed' stories on here, or anywhere else.

Actually there are laws in most communities requiring that companion animals be given veterinarian care if they need it. Unfortunately, there are so many homeless animals and many people without much income who at least provide them with shelter and food. If we could ever get control of the overpopulationn problem with spaying and neutering maybe we could begin to enforce these laws more stringently.

People should not be deprived of pets simply because they can't afford veterinary care. Many human children go hungry, without adequate clothing, shoes etc. when their parents devote their resources to alcohol or drugs.

So it is a matter of education and economics that affects all human beings and the unfortunate animals who become our companions.

I can understand where you are coming from, some of the questions that are posted are somewhat repetitive. I agree with Bonsylar, some people just don't know, have never had a pet, or have never been in the financial situation that they are in now and are a bit unsure of how to handle vet costs. I think as kind, compassionate humans we may just need to be somewhat more tolerant of others, and try and help them rather than just tear them apart. Of course none of us are Veterinarians, we just need to point them in the right direction and tell them to see/call their vet so that their pet can get the medical attention that it needs.

yes I am! I don't even look at some of them now, and I've only been doing this for about a month. a lack of funds I understand, I work at Wal-Mart. but a lot of people don't fix their cat cause "we don't have the money" well why did you get one in the first place!
then they ask what to do when their cat is in heat/spraying/pregnant!!? I may have no money but I make sure my cat is fixed and buy the best cat food, and when my cat is sick, I beg and borrow and save to pay for it!

I also hate " what breed is my kitten, he's got black and silver tabby markings with long hair " or "good cat names?"

ARRGGGG!

I have to disagree, actually....I see what you mean, though - some questions really ARE stupid. The only ones that make me mad are the mean ones about people wanting to get rid of their pets - those are horrible and definitely inexcusable. But as far as the ignorant ones, some of the people asking might just be kids. And at least they DO ask, because there's people that can inform them - that's the whole purpose to Y! Answers. Don't get me wrong, though, I understand where you're coming from.

To be honest the ones that really get to me are the "how do I get rid of my pet" questions. Or how can I get my pet bred questions (more of those in the dog section). I guess it is frustrating because I help foster for a rescue and I am aware of how many abandoned and unwanted pets are out there and are being put to sleep and it seems like some people don't think about or care about the cost of their irresponsible actions.

I don't have a problem when anyone asks a question. I'm tired of the people who answer with "a shotgun" or "drown it" or "get rid of the cat". These people are not constructive and are just plain nasty.
