If witchcraft is a religion, why is it banned in some public schools? Is it banned in all public schools? Please tell me everything you know about witchcraft in school.

If witches beleive in something, and they think that if they worship something, wouldn't that make it a religion? Also, there was a group of girls at my school who were either suspended or expelled because they practiced witchcraft. Can schools do that?

If some schools have banned Wicca (the most popular religion that uses witchcraft) then they also better ban any student from carrying a bible to school or wearing a cross.
If they were threatening people with curses then that is one thing but most likely they told a friend who told someone who told a parent and the parent freaked out.
There have been several lawsuits that have been won allowing Wiccan's to wear pentacles in school. Just takes the right lawyers.
And I do not have any problem with students wearing crosses or bringing bibles to school. Just the school can't sponsor them.

Witchcraft really isn't a religion, it's a tool used by those who follow certain Pagan religions. The religions themselves should not be banned anymore than any other religion out there. If they are, then something should be done about it. Here, we had a small problem of the schools not wanting to allow some kids (mine was one) to wear Pentacles, a religious symbol for many Pagans. They claimed it was "gang related". All it took was a few articles to show that the Cross is used more in gangs as symbols than any other religious symbol. It was quickly tossed and the kids are allowed to wear their Pentacles.
Now, concerning those girls, it does depend on what they were doing. Were they threatening people with their magic? If so, then they should have been suspended. If they were merely just discussing it and another kid freaked out (as some tend to do) then, if I were the girls parents I would fight it every step of the way.

It's not so much that it's legally banned, it's just really misunderstood still, especially in southern/midwestern bible belt schools. And public schools tend to suck for everyone anyway. And it scares the school boards and since some of the new practicing witches that are in these schools usually go for the goth look, and have a hateful/sad/mad look on their faces and say weird things to get them fired up so that prompts some of them to venture into illegal territory and ban it. Witchcraft itself is not a religion, it's a magickal practice. Wicca, and many other religions are witchcraft based or oriented.

I don't really think any religion, esoteric path or occult should be taught in schools except if you choose to take religion as a class. I doubt Witches practicing Witchcraft would want everyone to be forced to practice Witchcraft or even have it so easily accessible since it is something you have to devote your life to, not something you complain about because of all the homework you have to do while you actually just want to go hang out with your friends.

oh, is that what you mean. That is discrimination and injustice.

Witchcraft is a religion (if you use this term to apply to Wicca). And yes, the practice of witchcraft is banned from some schools, because those setting school guidelines find it to be "disruptive" to the learning environment to allow the students to exercise their freedom of religion. However, it's not just the non-mainstream religions that find this kind of reaction from schools. There are schools that restrict Christian students from wearing crosses, or place limitations on the size of the cross, because of the distraction that such displays cause, and there are schools that prevent Muslim girls from wearing their traditional headwear, just to give a couple of other examples.

Witchcraft isn't exactly a religion... It is like a hobby. Witchcraft was never a part of the school system...but witchcraft is impossible..

witchcraft is banned at all public schools, but witchcraft is not a religion. witchcraft is more of a 'tool' that is used by some religions.

actually all religions are allowed in public schools...that is what the republicans DON'T like, because the first amendment prohibits the government from establishing a religion the public schools can't teach just one religion, nor can they stop you from being of a minority religion. Christians can pray, Muslims have to be given the opportunity to pray during the 5 times a day that their religion calls for. witches can do whatever it it is they do...you just have to do it on your own time in a non disruptive way...and the teachers or administration can't force anyone to participate in the rituals of any one religion

Witchcraft/Wicca is no more a recognized religion than Scientology is. It is not considered to be a mainstream religion. Maybe in future ultra-PC days, it might be.
