Are some wines better for you than others? The answer is, “Yes!” Researchers at University of California at Davis have concluded that full-bodied dry red wines contain the highest levels of flavonoids and provide the greatest benefits. The number one wine for supplying the most flavonoids is Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Syrah and Pinot Noir also ranking highly. Sweeter wines and white wines have less flavonoids and are less beneficial.

A glass & a half is the "prescribed dose". And I think you can research organic wines. They contain no sulfites or other additives that could potentially hinder the antioxidant process.
Common sense tells me that you'll get more health benefits out of a classic Mediterranean or Coastal red than a jug of that "wild vines black cherry" sweet stuff.
There's a lot of purity in the Super Tuscan reds, as well. U have uncorked my favorite subject, obviously!! lol
One more thing... supplement your wine intake w/ unsweetened grape juice, or blueberry juice. Antioxidant heaven!

Cheers

Pinot Noir grapes are said to be a good source of resveratrol, which according to the JAMA, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antithrobatic propeties (prevents blood clots from being formed within blood vessels in the heart). Resveratrol is found in phytoalexins “any of a class of plant compounds that accumulate at the site of invading microorganisms and confer resistance to disease” (Random House Dictionary). It is also one reason that the medical profession believes people in France have lower cardiac problems, despite eating a lot of rich and fatty foods.
