Or is it possible to lock company or co-op clauses?
I am trying to find ways in which certain rules within our associations constitution can be locked. This is of great importance, as it is a radical group, and new members in the future will try to ammend the rules. The book Animal farm is a great book in that it showed that if you try to do things differently, it will be doomed to fail. However, not if some of the crucial rules can be locked. Is there a way of doing this

have you looked at "Community interest Companies"?
this is the same as a normal co ltd, but with a stated social or environmental benefit and an asset lock so that the assets can only be used for the purpose stated, even if the company folds. these key points cannot be changed, but can be more flexible than a charity.

There may be local groups that can help set-up a social enterprise, contact your county council enterprise officer.
another benefit of the asset lock is that funding agencies will give you grants.

I would have thought that it would be a bit of a hold back, as things in this life progress, and in this day and age, at a very fast pace, if you were to lock all clauses, then no progress could be made, what seems like a good idea now, doesn't mean its a good one in the future, i could give you lots of examples of the things we did years ago, that don't seem so good now.
