I'm looking at buying a really nice FD lens. While it does fit onto older EF bodies, I have the newer EF body so I don't know if it'll work. Does anyone know?

No, FD lenses are not compatible with the EF (EOS) mount. The EF mount uses a bayonet mount vs. the FD's breech-lock, they are of different sizes, etc.
Canon does make adapters and tele-extender converters, but you either you lose infinity focus or a stop, and in both cases you lose exposure metering at full aperture and AF.

contained on the subject of 70-300mm lenses this is the case. All Canon made 70-300mm are on the EF mount. in spite of the undeniable fact that it somewhat is a distinctive case for different kinds of lenses. The 1000D will basically take EF and EF-S lenses, lenses from different manufacturers designed for those mounts. there is a few compatibility with tailored and converted lenses yet those are somewhat extra suited for the experienced Canon shooter.

Possibly, with the exception of Nikon. You may have to purchase the newer model lens...it's how many camera companies make their money.
