I love making sandwiches, and I love making them with sub bread. However, I can't ever seem to find a decent loaf of sub bread at any grocery store. I've tried 3-4 different stores. They all have these pre-packaged "sub breads," but the problem with them is that they are way too thick and wide. The result? A sandwich that is overwhelming in the bread department, and no matter how much you try to balance it with meats and cheeses and veggies, the sandwich is still dominantly bread. The worst part is, I always end up feeling too full, because I can practically feel the yeast rising in my stomach.

The size of bread I find ideal is the kind you would find in most sandwich shops: Subway, for instance. I like the size of their breads. Not overwhelming.

Where can I find something like this?

you may try going to your local "Subway" and asking them if you can buy their older bread, most throw the bread out every two hours that they don't use, some save it for food banks, when i worked at "Subway" (back in the day) we threw ours out.... i had the same problem until i found great bread at a lil bakery down the street- good luck !!!!

Instead of looking for submarine bread ask for po'boy style bread its essentially the same thing but po'boy is the style they use at Subway, Quizno's, etc. Your best bet is to go to a specialty store, like a real bakery they should be able to sell you some or tell you locally where you can buy it. For local bakeries look in the phonebook and don't be afraid to go to smaller lesser known places sometimes those are the best spots! Happy Hunting!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! Get those sub rolls and scoop out some of the bread. Its super easy to do. Gently use your hands to tear out 1/2 inch from either side making a BOAT. Get it?? Then you can load it up with all the gar-baaaage without eating all that bread!! Thats what I do- YUM. My BF Loves my subs!!!!!!!!

For my favourites I like to use a loaf of Tiger Bread, I split it and filly with my favourites and cut the ends off, about 40 mm long to put away for a snack. I then cut into three, one each, and have with some soup in some giant mugs I have that can take 500ml. That will feed us for lunch or dinner depending on what else I can put in them
