In most states you change party affiliations by voting in the Primary Elections. You vote is only for the candidates who will run in the GENERAL ELECTIONS later that year. Also, you can further your participation by going to the caucuses after your polls close. Each precinct will have a caucus for each party on the ballot. There you will elect your delegates to the county convention, submit proposed resolutions to present to the county convention, and nominate a precinct chairman.. At the county convention you will do the same, only with the state convention in mind. At the state level, you will see all sorts of shenanigans, fun, and politics at their best. You will also vote for the National Delegates, State Chairperson, planks for the party platforms, and even cast votes for delegates for each candidate on the national ballot. At the national level you vote on all of that stuff again, as well as nominate the national candidates for President and Vice President. Enjoy, take part and go far. It's an experience you will never forget.

You would go or write to the board of elections and ask for a voter registration form and then just change your party. As a matter of fact you might even be able to do it on line but I am not sure about it, but you could give it a try.

Simply vote for the other party when you step into the voting booth. Most states don't have a formal party registration process; some do, but if you want to cross party lines, you're perfectly free to do so.

In the US, party affiliation only matters when voting in primaries. Depending on your state, you either change your registration with the Board of Elections or you simply vote in a different party's primary.

In the next primary, all you have to do is mark your party on the ballot. There are no other formal forms you have to do. You can change your party as often as you want.

Just do it. There are no restrictions on your relationship to any political party. YOU are YOU and that's that.
