-I have very few programs running
-My internet connection is usually fast (not that it has much to do with importing music from a CD)
-I don't do anything while it's importing
-I don't play any songs while it's importing
-I have no viruses
-I've done an Ad-Aware scan
-I have the newest version of iTunes
-My computer still has about 1/3 free memory

What can I do to bring it back up to speed?

Maybe it's your CD drive that's acting as the bottleneck? Certainly that's the most likely aspect of the transfer process to be slow. One way to check would be to install DbPowerAmp as a tester, an application which, like iTunes, rips music tracks from CD to your hard drive. If the rip process still takes ages with DbPowerAmp then it would imply it is your CD drive that's at fault. If however DbPowerAmp can rip stuff at a decent speed then that at least rules the CD drive out of the equation which should make the problem a bit easier to diagnose.

Are you playing the song from the CD as you import? that would want to decelerate importing. Is it Mac or computer? With Mac, pull up the options for iTunes, and examine your import %. which could also be a issue.
