You're supposed to defrost it in the fridge. You can also use the microwave on the defrost setting. I used to just leave it on the counter but I have stopped doing that with all types of meat because I read up on a lot of the risks and things like how bacteria start multiplying very rapidly after just 20 min and it can cause you to get gastrointestinal upset or worse. I usually just take the meat out the night before and place it in the fridge or if it's a bigger amount the morning of the day before I want to cook it.

I've never heard of a proper way to defrost it, but here are my rules of thumb. If it's the day before I need it I just move it to the fridge. If I need it fast tho I'll set it (still in the packaging) in the sink under running hot water. Looking forward to anyone who can give a good tip for this.

Leave it in the fridge overnight, or use a microwave. Do not let it defrost by leaving it out, this could result in contaminated meat.

I put it in a frying pan on low to med heat, keep flipping it over and peel off the cooked part and break up the big pieces until it is cook thoroughly. If you are making patties then you will need to put it in the fridge a day or two ahead of time or just buy fresh.

Leave it to defrost all day. Depending on how hot it is. When it's done then put it in the fridge till it's needed.

Run a sink full of cold water and let it set in that. Works for all kinds of meat.

Refridgerator overnoght, in cool water if it is packaged in air tight seal, or microwave ensuring that you turn and check it often to avoid cooking it.
