In a post--modern age, where there is no ultimate truths, you'd think that something like Evangelical Christianity would decline in believers, but the facts is that Evangelical Christianity is growing at an alarming pace.

As human beings it's very hard to deny our innate eternal consciousness. At least in my case I refuse to believe that I have 70-80 years as a physical being.

Immoratlity is going to be a big selling point in any society, post-modern, modern or neo-post-modern. Do you agree?

That would be great if it could be proven. Great, that is, if eternal consciousness means an improvement over life in the physical body.

There isn't any constant in the universe (none that has yet to be verified anyway). Of the unproven constants in the Universe, many claim the universe and many claim God. The universe shows signs of a beginning and signs of an end...it is not constant. God does not show signs of existence, so there isn't much point of a debate.

In a universe in which things change, immortality cannot work. Immortal beings are changeless and can only adapt to what they were originally evolved for. Humans evolved with the notion that death is imminent and that reproduction needs to occur ASAP. An immortal creature does not need to reproduce and it will not adapt once the environment changes from the world it was born into. Once more, of all the animals, humans are the worst candidate for immortality in that at a given age the human mind becomes set. For the rest of eternity a human will try to compare the world he finds himself in to his predetermined assumptions and become deeply frustrated. As he, the changeless thing, finds that the world changes all the time, so do all the things and people within it. His frustration will grow when he realizes that he cannot hold onto anything for it simply won't survive the duration. Eventually the changeless being will bring about his own end, thus correcting the paradox of a changeless being in an ever changing universe.

Humans do not have an "innate eternal consciousness. Because of inherited sin, we get sick, grow old and we die. We are not immortal. Ez. 18:4, 20 says: "The soul that is sinning will die." If we are immortal, Jesus' promise to resurrect the dead would be unnecessary. Put aside your personal feelings and get the right information from the Bible.

At Rev. 21:4, God promises to wipe out death. If we are already immortal, what is there to wipe out?

Exactly what mechanism do you propose will carry your personality once your body dies? If you were to get brain damage, your memory or personality could be wiped out. Will the new personality survive your death or the old one? If you are drugged you behave differently. If you die in a sedated state, will your post-mortem existence continue to be intoxicated? Without sensory organs, you have no way to take in information or to engage in any interaction. Will life after death mean eternal isolation?

It is wishful thinking to "[refuse] to believe that [you] have 70-80 years as a physical being." Wishful thinking does not make the wish come true.

Oh but there are ultimate truths. We are growing because of Whom we serve and love. Thank you for noticing. You absolutely will die and therefore cease to exist as a physical being. After you die you will become a spiritual being who either spends eternity in hell with satan, his angles and all those who would not believe or you can spend eternity in the presence of GOD Almighty. Why is that so hard for everybody to get. It is SO CLEAR.

The notion of immortality is a basic, primitive reaction to fear of death. Nothing more or less. You refuse to believe you have 70-80 years of life because you don't WANT to believe it. You can't abide the thought of dying. No healthy human can. It's the most innate core of our instinct for self-preservation and without it we would have died as a species LONG ago.

I think as long as people remain primitive, frightened, naive, and credulous, fundamentalist religions of ALL kinds will thrive.

Growth of any religion is indeed alarming.
What do you mean there is no ultimate truths?
I think we may have an eternal consciousness, but I will believe it only when I actually have reason to.
Let your fears guide you then.

Immorality is probably a bigger selling point than immortality:)

Well, you don't sell immortality. You grow into it, or the understanding of the mechanics behind the scene (so to speak). Humans are beginning to touch spiritual truths, and this movement can only gain momentum as time glides to an end.

Why do you refuse that? What is your evidence. Post-Modernism is a failiure, a rejection of logic and objective thought. I myself would be horrified if I had to live forever. There would be no point to living. I will live, and I will enjoy it, and then I will die. And that is that. You have absolutely no reason to suggest that our brains are anything more than massive neural networks. You have no reason to say that we have souls.
