My son is 17 years old and it looks like he has a chicken pox. Do I need to get him to a hospital? Is there a n over-the-counter drug or medicine for chicken pox?

Chicken pox is straining for anyone at any age. I found you a site, you may have to scroll down a bit for your answer, but it is there.

My son got them from daycare when he was 5 or so. His two sisters got it shortly afterward. It's easier when they are younger than older. (Some of my neighbors found out we had chicken pox and they invited themselves over so their child(ren) could get CP and get it over with, that was a little intense.)

Good luck!

you can make a paste out of oatmeal or just use Calamine lotion to dry out the pox.

If he has a fever, you should give him Tylenol. I wouldn't think you need to take him to the hospital. It'll go away, but you need to keep him away from senior citizens and people with weak immune systems because they can get Shingles from the chicken pox virus, which is very painful for them.

Calamine lotion helps, and Aveno makes a "oatmeal " bath soak stuff....it works well.

I myself had the chicken pox while I was a kid, then 2 years ago while I was pregnant....those two items I mentioned were my life savers!
