I would say around the time they hit middle school. (maybe a little before that) I know when I was in 4th grade I had an idea of what sex was. I'm not sure if I fully grasped it, but I had an idea. Also, in the after school program I was in ppl kept calling other ppl "lesi's" (aka lesbians) (not around the advisors) and that when I learned what that was. There are kids that are younger that are talking about sex and stuff. It's in almost every song on the radio and on TV, so they're hearing it. When I was in Upper Elementary School they'd put the boys in one room and the girls in another room and teach us about our "changes". (i.e: periods, late bloomers, etc)

I was listening to a radio station and they said 13 was kinda late for kids these days.

I guess anytime before boys actually start noticing girls and girls actually start noticing boys.

Hope this helps!

You can answer individual questions when they ask...be truthful. When I was 5 I heard something on the news about prostitutes and I asked my mom what a prostitute was. She told we that it was a woman that sold her body for money and I said "I thought that was a hooker"...knew what a hooker was, but had never heard the word prostitute before. I think that around 10-12 is a good time to have the talk. Kids are in such a rush to grow up and think that they have to have boyfriends at a young age, and there are a lot of 12-13 year-old girls out there that are getting pregnant. They need accurate info from their parents. I don't want my children to get their info from their friends...which most of the time is completely wrong.

Around 10 or so IF they seem ready. They will be asking 'off the wall' questions. Just keep your ears open and be ready. Some girls start their period early, so keep in mind you might have to have that talk before the sex talk.
My son came home from school when he was around 10 and said that we had to talk. Told him to pull up a chair (I was cooking) and he told me that it was a "sit down talk", so I turned the stove off, poured myself a glass of wine (thank God) and sat down expecting "This boy hit me" talk and instead, I got "do I really have to ............ to a girl when I grow up?" The entire glass of wine was downed. It seemed that one of the boys had 'watched' his parents the night before and came to school explaining every detail. I thought I had till he was at least 12-13, so be ready - you never know when you will need to 'talk'. Good luck!

i would say around maybe 10 or 11 i have a 9year old that is starting to ask some questions, and im tryin to be completely honest but i dont want her to know too much right now , i dont think she's really ready for the whole trust just yet. So really im goin through that myself lol. kids these days try to know more about everything and i have 3 kids and dont think its right to tell them too early then they'll want to try it out for themselves to see what happens . not sayin she's ready for it at all but she is curios cos she hears it all the time at school. its like thats all they talk about these days . what happened to talkin bout other things like what u did last night or what u gonna do 2marrow? things like that. kids grow up so fast these days just cos ppl ar tellin them to early. best of luck

It should've started when they were toddlers or when they ask that question, "Where do babies come from?". Use real terms and not those slang ones. That's when explanation of the sexual anatomy should have started. Depending on the age of your children, they might already know something about it. Just make sure their info is not misinformation of the anatomy.

my step son who is 9 asked me how daddy's fishy (sperm) gets in the egg. and so there i was, i had to give him a truthful answer, and i told him a little bit about the talk, like love+mommy +daddy=sex. and i will let dad take it from there. but i would say when they begin to show intrest in the topic.
