It depends on whether or not you own the mineral rights as well. It is possible (in fact quite common) to "own" the surface rights to a chunk of land but not own the mineral rights.

I can't give you a full answer, but often the answer is no. Depending on local laws, people owning land do not have the right to claim minerals below it. So if you owned a piece of land with a oil deposit below you, your land ownership may not extend to include what's under you.
Good question!

No...Nowadays you usually own only the surface...This way companies can run cables line poopes etc uner it and also big business has the right to any mineral or wealth under it, unless you are fortunate enough to buy the Mineral rights or inherit a piece of land that this was already included in ...|(grandfather clause)

only if the deed specifies that you own all mineral rights to the land. Many times people buy land, which they own, and then some coal company can dig a hole in it cause they own the mineral rights. Or some lumber company chops down all the trees cause they own the timber rights.

I would say yes, but what you can do on and/or under that land is sometimes controlled by laws. For example, if your plot of land sits on a city water main you cant just dig it up and destroy it.

I would have to say no, cause when it comes down to it you never really OWN land. It's a nice idea, but if we really owned it we wouldn't have to get permits to dig and build on our own land.

Yes, but understand it gets smaller as you get deeper, not like you'll be able to dig out to the center of the earth!

No. You would need Mineral/Mining rights and they are only valid to the depth that you purchase. Everyone is trying to get rich on others.
