Some just want your attention, others are trying to be funny. Those who think it'll work are just desperate. Maybe he just wants to look cute in your eyes. Sometimes, they're not thinking clearly. They might be fantasizing about how something'll go after he says that catch line, and pretending the outcome is good. Or maybe he's admiring you, and not really thinking.
It's strange, if they're in their adolescence. When in adolescence, the decision-making part of the brain's developing. But then again, self-control falls behind. WAY behind.

Hey, at least it usually catches your attention and a lot of times using some kind of corny pick up line is better than going unnoticed and it shows that they notice you.

Because guys don't hear all the pick up lines you hear on a daily basis. To each guy, what they're saying is original to them, but to you, it's all been said before because guys use those lines on you every day. Cut a guy some slack.
