Hey, I'm about your age and I just started a public choir a year ago and I'm starting voice lessons soon. You're at the perfect age and don't worry, you can get just as good as those stars if you're a good enough singer and you put your mind to it. Most schools have a choir and usually the teacher gives private vocal lessons for free which is a great chance for you. Also, if you think you're good enough (which you probably are) try out for your school's musical, most schools have one or a play. Don't let your voice go to waste, consider bigger and bigger things. Start out with the school play first.
Good Luck!!!!
:)

I've been singing since I was 4. I'm pretty successful, I sing the National Anthem at all my High School sporting events. But, I'm 16 now and I've been asked to sing in a trio at the All-State 400. But i don't think it matters how old you have to be, as long as your ready for some work, practice sight reading, and having a piano helps.
Hope It Helps

If you have the gift of singing, then by all means use it! Now, you must be very careful how you use your voice, since you could do some serious damage to it if you don't take care of it. The recommended age for a female to begin taking voice lessons is 14, so you can begin next February! :) I recommend for you to find a good voice teacher, preferrably a college instructor who has had experience in vocal performance and with good credentials---very important! A professional can help you develop a solid foundation for technique and performance habits. In the meantime, get yourself involved in church and/or community choirs or theater productions to explore your talent. Take care of your gift! Finding a good voice teacher is the way to go! :)

YES IT DOES!!!!! You can cause serious damage by starting out too young, and you can lack development if you start out too old. I suggest if you want to start that you don't wait any longer. If you are a girl (and I'm guessing you are by your Avatar) then you have a MUCH larger grace period than a boy due to the natural development of your body. However, start lessons right away and learn to properly care for your voice.

The earlier you start the better, singing is as much a skill as learning to play a musical instrument.

It's never too late to sing! Sing your heart out, girl, it's good for your soul and your spirit, too. You may or may not make it as a professional, but that's okay, sing for yourself first

Music is all expression. If you stink at 13, you'll stink at 30. At 9, doesn't quite matter
