Okay, yeah, I tried search engines but got mostly spam sites. Woohoo.

So my credit card limit is pathetic enough that it won't cover the cost of my flight home in the middle of December to visit the parents for Christmas. So my mom said I could just use her credit card number. I found a great deal at the travel agent. So, um, how do I go about using my mom's credit card then if she lives a few hundred miles away from me?

As you can tell, I'm a student who has never used a credit card before.

Everybody has already answered this correctly. You have two options; have your MOM call the travel agent and charge the tickets to her card. You can even charge the amount you were going to pay (if any) on your card; the remainder on your Mom's. Or, you can get the number from your mother and give it directly to the travel agent. Confirmation of the charge, if necessary by the travel agent or the credit card issuer of your Mom's card, can be made over the phone.

Either have you mom book your tickets for you. Or, you can go have get everything lined out, then call your mom. Have her give the credit card number and whatever else to the agent.

As long as your mom gives you the numbers, including the "security code" (ususally the 4 numbers printed not embossed on the back of the card near the signature line), and the correct mailing address, you should have no problem. Or, your mom can make the reservation for you. Be glad you don't use credit cards alot...they can be trouble. happy holidays.

If it is over the phone you should be able to do it okay. Just give them the number, the name that is on the card and the expiration date. Over the phone no one needs to sign anything. Just tell them it is your mom's card if they are wondering. I have used my mom's credit card to pay for an ad in the newspaper over the phone. Have a good visit in December and tell mom thanks.

If your mum buys the ticket online, she will get a reference number. They will also email her a confirmation and she can add you to the cc. line so you also get the ticket details. Then you just reprint the tickets on your end and turn up at the airport.
If you mum is not internet savvy, she can go to the airport or travel agent and they will arrange it for her.
