While he has the typical Yorkie coloring, he stands 13 inches tall, and people are always remarking on what a lovely little schnouser I have. And if they don't complement the schnouser, they complement me on my unusual scotty.

I know the person who bred him, and both of the parents very well. My vet told me he looks like a throwback to her, like a silky terrier that at one time had been bred into the yorkie line.

There are plenty of large yorkies in the world. And many are purebred. You can try to search his pedigree, if you know it, but papers and lineage can be faked. Either way, cherish your unique little dog! : )

Just because you have papers on the dog, that doesn't mean it's pure-bred. For example, a irresponsible breeder accidently lets his female mate with a male of another breed. Well, he still wants to make money off the pups so when they're born, he tells the kennel club that the male yorkie is the father even though that is not neccesarily true. He then sells those pups as pure-breeds. This happens more often than people would like to admit. Then again, it can be hard to tell sometimes what a pup will look like when it gets older, it all depends on generations of genes being passed down.

Oh, I like the larger Yorkies - the one I met also had shorter hair. (Though I suppose it might have been the usual length & just looked shorter on him because he was bigger)

He was a wonderful animal, named George - the man who owned him assured me that he was a pedigree/purebred - it was just that he was larger than normal.

I suppose if you get the 'teacup' size at times then you must also get the large guys sometimes too.

Yours must be a handsome lad too if you're getting loads of complimentary comments.

Why not provide a link to a photo of him & then we could all see how he compared - lookswise - as it were.

It is possible. Dogs that haven't been bred by responsible breeders often are larger or smaller then breed standard.

we had a full blooded/purebreed yorkie. he was small but had different colors than what yorkies in photos usually look like. he had more grayish colors. but i know for sure that he was pure because my aunt breed him herself and we knew his parents who looked like the typical yorkies in photos. so yes, i believe just like we can look different than our parents, so can animals. just like our pure breed pit bull we had many years ago all the litter came out to look like bit bulls and where all the same colors like thier parents one happened to be white and didn't look like a pit bull at all and looked smaller.
