My 8yr old daughter does the same thing. I will hear about things that happened at school from other parents who's children tell them things. It bothers me so bad that she does not share her day with me. I wish I knew the answer for you and me but I am clueless. Good Luck

Maybe your 8 year old is not having that much fun in school. It take some kids to have fun while learning to actually remember something.

Typical for a grade schooler. Don't be surprised, and instead, try and make the questions more specific than just "What did you do in school today?"
Ask him if he had a test, or if he learned something interesting, or if he has homework that you might be able to help him with.
If he continues to shut you down with those questions then tell him that you are asking and you expect an answer. He is able to do it, but if he doesn't know you expect it and take it seriously, then he won't respond.

My guess is that you just don't have to worry about it.
I have two daughters and one of them is 6 (the oldest) and it is exactly as you say; she never remembers what she has learned at school if me or mom asks her.
Than i realize that she simply is more interested on TV, if it's on... or quite often she really can't recall it... but when it comes to do the home work it all comes back to her; as simple as that.
If think that when they get home they want to play, they don't want to talk about the day at school. Give some time and most likely they will begin talking about it without us even ask!
You have a nice day

Chances are he can remember. When kids are growing up they want to be a 'big kid'. And when they know mommy and daddy are big kids and they aren't talking about their day it may make them feel small. If you are very persistant he'll only resist further, try not asking and he might tell you on his own. Hope this helps.

I'm guessing that when he comes home from school, you ask..."what did you do at school today?"....and his answer is "I dunno". Hehe. Been there.
Ask him how his lunch was, who he played with at recess, what did they do in reading. Did he go to the library today? What's in the plans for tomorrow.
I found that asking more detailed questions gave me some great answers in return.
Good luck, and don't give up after trying this once...sometimes it takes a few days. Usually, once you get them going, it puts them right back into the middle of their day, and you hear about every little detail.

as in he gets bad grades? because he is either not engaged ever in homework, and not very bright.. or because he isnt smart at all.. or do you mean that he doesnt talk to you about what happens at school? and that is because he is growing up, and a part of that is not having to talk to your parents all the time.
