I worked for my family and I actually really liked it until I wanted to go hang out and have some time to myself and I couldn't. That was the only negative aspect of working for a family business. I had no real social life and I was being held back from school. Yeah, It was really bad at some point because things were so strict. I loved to help but my life was being taken over and controlled and I couldn't handle it anymore. I gave so much time into the business and I wasn't being appreciated for it. The only thing that kept me working with them was the fact that I am very family oriented. I loved it but at the same time hated it. There are many pros and cons. I'd say most of the time, it was worth it being there for the family.

It's only a good idea if you love what you do...if you don't run for the hills. I've worked for members of my family before and two things always happen.
1) they ask you to do things they wouldn't ask of anyone else
2)at some point someone will say"you only got that because you Dad/Mom/uncle is the boss" you'll never get full credit.

a Key to happiness...do what you love and the money will follow!

Ere on the side of caution. If the boss/employee relationship stays on a professional level than kudos to you. But beware, familiarity breeds contempt...in other words, they know you're "just family" and that might present problems when it comes to issues of respect and paychecks.

I'd say 80% stupid,20% good. You can get some added benefits but is it really worth it if you end up falling out or disagree over something petty?

Good Luck anyway!

i guess it depends on how you feel about your family. most people love their families, but i can see that everyone is not in that catagory!! as far as working for them as in a business, that depends on how you all get along.
