Hmm.. well while it doesn't exactly say, it does say he was bleeding. My guess would be falling on his own sword. Aside from poison, that seemed to be the typical practice.

That's from Suetonius also. Although... it seems odd that he would be able to say any last words after stabbing himself in the throat... Who knows? Ancient Roman historians aren't exactly renowned for their accuracy. Always a lot of embellishment from them.
