I was adopted and had an older sister that was their biological child but she was 14 years older then me so we were never very close. It was like I was an only child-and I turned out happy and fine.I don't think it is necessary to have but 1 child if you don't want to have more.

My husband and I have no children and are having trouble conceiving, we may end up adopting. We can give that child all the love and attention it needs. However, I think everyone, adopted or not should have a sibling, or some really close family members besides parents. Cousins would work as well. Simply because, what if something happened to my husband and I? I would want my child to have someone else. So, I guess my answer is that it doesn't really matter as long as they are given love and a sense of family.
