Before I am inundated with answers along the lines of why would I mutilate my dog for my own vanity please understand that I ask "Can it be done" not "It will be done"

A lot of replies are from folk who don't know what a gay tail is. I am not talking docking the tail. My dog is a 6 month old GSD with good bloodlines and an extremely good pedigree. She was bought as a pet and I was not misled by the breeder as has been suggested, she is a quality dog from a quality breeder. Her "gay" tail is not the vertical "curly wurly" variety, merely (I feel) that she carries it bit high. It was not obvious as a young puppy, and may yet correct itself as she grows. I would like to show her, both her Mum and Dad are "showdogs". If conformation shows are out of the question, there are other things she can do, obedience, agility etc.

Yes. However I'm not sure why you would want to do this as the breed standard is a show standard and breeding standard. A surgically 'improved' dog is still not eligable for showing and a non breed standard dog is not good breeding stock even after surgical improvements.

No it can not be fixed.
People, this is not a tail docking issue!!!! A "gay" tail is a tail that is carried too high when a dog moves, and it is a fault in breeds that do not call for a "gay" tail!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of these tail curl up and over like a Husky tail.
They cannot be surgically corrected. They are a fault and do not bother showing a dog with one, because judges HATE gay tails!! It detracts from the outline of the dog and the movement.
CANNOT BE FIXED as it is not due to a break or any other issue that needs "fixing".
Live with it.
Any everyone knows that if you HAD it fixed in some way..it would be a surgical correction and that DISQUALIFIES the dog from competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your dog is not a show quality dog. The breeder that you got him from would have realized that, if you had bought from an ethical, reputable breeder, and should have sold him to you as a pet-quality dog. This means that the dog is not show quality and should not be bred.
As to whether the dog can be altered, ask a vet. It is probably prohibited by your breed club and ethically, should not be done. However, I get the idea that ethics are not a priority in your life or else you'd be happy with a gay tailed pet.

Haha gay tail.
How old is the dog? It should have been docked at birth if it is the breed standard. As for docking when adult, I suppose it could be done but it sounds terrible. I'm against any docking being the breed standard. Nothing nicer than a dog wagging his tail, not a stump.

My very own opinion is Toy Poodles. considering i grew to become right into a groomer for years, I even have considered many of the worst specimens of the breed come via the save. while i offered my first Golden Retriever, i grew to become into stopped on the line and asked via strangers, what breed she grew to become into. That grew to become into some time past, earlier the breed grew to become into regular or grew to grow to be uncomplicated. each and every time a breed is fairly unknown and the marketplace for that animal is small, you will detect a dogs closer to reproduce ordinary.

Yes, the tail can be surgically fixed with success, it depends on the breed of your dog. This is only necessary if your dog comes from a breeder and you want to destinate him to competitions and exhibitions and the ideal age to do this is before 1 or 2 months old. I suggest NOT TO TAKE YOUR DOG TO SURGERY if it's not really necessary. Although a succesfull surgery is very possible, all surgeries are risky, so i repeat: if there's no need, I suggest not to do it. Good luck!

I suppose it 'could' be done but no vet would agree to doing it since if it is purely a pet there would be no reason to put a pet through painful and expensive surgery and if it was a show dog, the corrective surgery would disqualify it.

Accept the dog as is. No, it will never be a show dog but it will still be a great family member

Surgically docking a dogs tail is a painful procedure. There are a lot of veterinarians who won't do tail docking at all as it violates their personal morale. Others will do it only if the dog is a few days old. You'll have to check with your vet or local veterinarians to see if they'll perform the procedure.

Of course it "can" be done. Doubt you will find a vet who will do it though. Things have changed and vanity surgery is frowned on. Of course you could always do it yourself and risk prosecution for animal cruelty ...
