The accident happened when I tried to pull out of the curb, and the other car passed by, and I scratched their door. No one was injured, the other party got my contacts, but I didn't get theirs. No police was present, and we had a verbal agreement that we will settle outside insurance. I will be responsible for their repairment bill but the problem is, it is my friend's car and the car has no insurance covered, I would like to know what can I do, and how can I settle this incident. Is it likely that they will still file for insurance or go to the police even though I agree to pay for their damages? Please help me out on this. Thank you!

I am currently in NY state. The accident happend 3 days ago, and I still haven't heard from the other party yet. I didn't sign any paper work at the scene, the only thing that we reached was a verbal agreement that I will pay for the car's damage. What can I do if the actually contact me?

The car that I scratched was a SAAB, and I know that I probably have to pay for whatever they ask for since I am at fault, but if they're honest about it, how much would it normally cost to fix a scratched door without a dent?

I would guess if you pay in full what they ask, it is unlikely they will go to the police. However as you fail to mention which country you are in, I cannot comment any further.

The fact that it's been several days ago and you haven't heard from these people is not a good sign. It could mean they've decided to just forget it, and it could mean they've decided to file a claim. If you knew the car was uninsured, then you could be in a lot of trouble. It's always recommended to swap information at the scene always, so at least you know for next time to get it regardless of fault. They have the right to file the claim, and the police and/or the insurance adjuster would be in contact with you. If I were the other driver, I would end up filing a claim and calling the police to ensure all of my damages would be covered. It's going to be a waiting game for the next few days, but you may never hear anything back. Because it was your friend's car, the driver could actually go after them instead, or both of you. Not much you can do until you hear back from them, but good luck and use this as a lesson to #1 never, ever drive without insurance (you could face a license suspension) and #2 swap all information at the scene and calling the police is recommended.

In my State you never drive without insurance,
his auto wouldn't have a tag.
I hope it's not much. Too bad you didn't take
a picture of it. When you pay them have a witness
with you, and be sure you get a receipt for the payment.
Did you write down information about the accident?
Date
where it happen.
who was there.
You really needed their information to pay for it. Hmmmm

They can't really go to the police after the fact. If it is minor and they are cool about it, they should let you just pay them out of pocket. This is done a lot when people do not want to involve insurance, as they do not want their rates to go up. As long as you pay up, everything should be copasetic.

Someone without insurance hit me and offered to settle in cash. That pissed me off, because if my insurance found out about it they would raise my rates. So I threw the book at the person that hit me - I tracked them down, pressed charges, and turned it into my insurance company. I had no problems and the person who hit me (without insurance) had to pay it out.
You can offer to pay, but you committed a crime and the person you hit would be within their rights to turn you in and walk away. If they take your money, they're taking all the risk.

If they didn't give you their info, chances are they believe they were at fault and will never contact you.
Also, there are a lot of uninsured motorists - if they didn't give you their insurance company information, I'll bet they didn't have any either.
I wouldn't worry about them calling the cops - they left the scene as well.

Did you sign any papers?
Hopefully they won't try to screw your over, but they could. Especially if you signed a paper (it then becomes a binding contract).
