Here's the best answer chosen by that asker (my answer might I humbly add :) ):
There are about a bazillion different kinds of Baptists with the only commonality (outside of the basics of any Bible-believing Christian churches) between them being that they believe in believer's baptism as opposed to infant baptism. Most also believe in the eternal security of the believer.
My favorite Baptist minister is John Piper. His ministry has a phenomenal website that goes into great detail about what they believe the Bible teaches (online sermons, articles, online books, etc.) It's at http://www.desiringgod.org
God bless you on your search for an answer to this question.

We believe that God brought Jesus in to the world through the Virgin Mary as his son to save the world from sin. God knew that someone would have to die for the worlds sins or the world would be doomed. So, he sent his only son to die on the cross. Jesus willingly died for everyone. Jesus loves even those that hate him. Jesus never sinned in all his life here on Earth. He was put to death and then they went to see if he was still in his grave but he rose from the dead. This was considered a miracle. We also believe that there will be a judgment day one day when the world ends. The world will end when Jesus walks the Earth again. When you die, hopefully you lived life with Jesus in your heart; and your sins were washed away, then you will enter into the paradise that God promised to the Christians. Methodist is really close, almost the exact same beliefs as the Baptists. But the Baptists are more modern. Have big TV screens in the church and stuff like that. Methodist sing the older songs and stuff. I hope you know more about the Baptists now. Christianity is a bad religion to miss out on. Put Jesus in your heart and you will be promised eternity in the house of the Lord.

We follow an evangelical set of beliefs beginning with the inerrancy of Scripture, and Jesus' sacrifice as the only way to heaven which must be accepted individually. Our theology is Calvinism, though often modified somewhat.
We baptize by total immersion after the individual has accepted Christ on their own. In the old days we didn't let members of other denominations in on our communion services, but that has largely disappeared.
We are made up of separate congregations individually governed in a democratic manner, with the pastor and deacons a spiritual overseers, though their authority is limited.
We trace our roots to the Anabaptists of Europe and in this country to Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island. The Southern Baptist Convention is the largest of our denominations, but there are others.
We don't believe in charismatic manifestations, though we do tend to get excited sometimes, in our own way.

Baptists are a Christian denomination and are protestant.
They believe that there is only one true God, and that salvation of the eternal soul comes by accepting God's Son, Jesus, as Christ and Savior.
Baptists are further divided into other groups: Southern Baptist, Primitive Baptist, etc. Without knowing which you're looking at, it's difficult to explain more of the denominational differences.

Baptists do believe Jesus is the messiah and they believe you should be fully submerged in water and when you come out of it represents that your a new person who is now saved. Baptists think it's best to be fully submerged in water, but believe that even if you're not and you still have excepted Jesus as your pesonal savior you will still be saved.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
You cannot enter into the kingdom of God unless you accept His Son Jesus as your savior, and repent of your sins daily, and turn your life over to Him, You must from then on Live according to the word of God. If you dont live according to God's word, then Jesus has this to say about that...
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
It's a complete and total commitment to the Lord. There is no such thing as a part time Christian.
God bless you, I hope this was of some help to you. You can also talk to your friend who is a Baptist. They would love to share their faith with you.

You know I never thought about what way I believe by being a baptist, so I'll just state what I believe, I believe in God as our father, I believe in Jesus as his only son who died to save us from our sins, I believe in the virgin birth of Jesus, and I believe in heaven and hell.and I also believe in the bible. I also believe in a good and merciful God,one that forgives all our sins as long as we ask for his forgiveness.

Well we are called to be baptised in order to be born-again. Baptists obviously believe in this but so should anyone who believes what God is saying is true. Jesus makes it clear.
