I have hair to my waist, and Pantene messes mine up too.
The best shampoo EVER, for strength and shine, is Biolage. The problem is, it's very expensive.
If you can't afford it, you might want to try "The Original Mane N' Tail". Don't be fooled by the name, it's for humans too, and it works well.

Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner. They also make a good detangler and a leave-in moisturizer/conditioner for hair. Yes, they're horse shampoo and conditioner, but they also work for people, and they work very well. You can find them at Sally Beauty if you don't have ranch supply stores in your area. You can also find a lot of good advice and suggestions in the forums here:

I would say something specficially made for long hair. Look at labels in the drug store/walmart or talk to a stylist at a salon.

Garnier "Long and Strong", Herbal Essences "Break's Over" are a few drug store brands I used before I cut my hair short.

I would also suggest taking vitamins, Biotin is WONDERFUL for hair.

Hair that long is so **** beautiful on a woman.

I recommend mane and tail conditioner after your regular conditioner. It's usually used on horses but is good for any hair. Wal-Mart and even some grocery chains sell it.

I heard from black and white beauticians is Panteen Pro V. They say that it keeps the most moisture in your hair and will keep the hair from breaking.
