I will leave my religious beliefs -or lack thereof- out of this.

Basically, the theory of evolution states that very slowly, through genetic mutation, species will change. I don't see anything about religion in there. I can see where it would be at odds with a literal interpretation of Genesis, but past that...

I also fail to see the correlation. But this is definitely not the first time something like this has happened. When we discovered the Earth was round or that it evolved around the Sun, the Church was afraid these discoveries somehow threatened the faith of Christ's followers. They seem, however, unshaken. I suppose it has something to do with God being placed into every "unknown." So when science answers our question, God seems to become unnecessary.

This all depends on your beliefs. Science will say that we are just an accident, from the simple bacteria to, after many mutations, become all of the life we see today.
Religious doctrines show various ideas that there is more to just living, and that death leads to another life eventually.
I can't tell you what the right religion is, but I can show you that we are not an accident. Let me show you a hypothetical situation. Suppose you have a gigantic bowl. You then throw in wood, metal, concrete, glass, etc. In other words, everything you would need to build a very nice house. You then shake and spin this bowl. You hit it with lightning, heat, cold, water, radiation, etc. You do this for millions of years. Do you think you will have a fully built house from doing this? You most likely will answer, never! The one thing missing from building this house is "intelligent design." I believe the same goes for DNA and life in general.

Evolution is no longer just a theory--it's a proven fact that has been accepted world-wide for many years.

However, there is no reason why evolution and belief in God cannot be compatible. You might look at the issue from the perspective that God created the universe and everything in it. Evolution was a result of this.

Evolution has nothing to do with GOD. GOD is not the GOD of mutations. And,for crying out loud, it's not about "religion" GOD hates religion the BIBLE says. To HIM perfect religion is this,"that we care for widows and orphans." GOD dosen't want religion HE wants RELATIONSHIP! GOD created Adam from the dust. HE created man in HIS own image and the GOD I serve is not a single celled emebia. GOD breathed life into man and that is as far as the physical changes went. Now man's morall de-evolution began as soon as Adam accepted the fruit from EVE.

Maybe there were Neaderthals in the beginning that God let evolve for a while when He was taking care of other business. It is possible for someone to be an evolutionist and believe in God.

It states nothing about God.

It does not contradict the Bible, but only a literal reading of it. Of course the literal reading requires quite a few bits of hand-waving to explain the world as it is.

Really wanna know the truth. Try doing a study on the "history of evolution". Leave God out, if you can.

Yes, Evolution makes no attempt to say where life CAME from. So it's quite possible God made animals that evolved over time. But I don't quite believe this.

Science cannot and does not address the question of religion or gods. So the answer is nothing

It contradicts w/ God words: 'let there be plants, and animals of their kind'. Many of evolution's proof are forgeries. Click on my name and read some of my postings. Last night I read a list of prominent scientists expressing serious doubts on evolution.
