There are several programs offered on Ebay which will cleanup the hard disk and that will boot from a CD. Is one these useful? I can boot the computer from a CD and I can get to setup. I will probably try to load some version of linux if I can cleanup the hard disk. I have tried to load linux on the corrrupted disk with no results.

If it was non-Linux product all you have to do is stuff in bootable Linux disk and when prompted, tell the installer to use and erase all of the disk. If i may suggest go with PclinuxOS. Reliable, easy to adapt to after win. However, if your hdd is defect then a new one is in order. Anyway it will be a cheap adventure.

First try to format it. It is the only cleanup you can follow with a corrupted hard disk
