I am painting my kitchen walls (top half egg shell, bottom half wine) how do I get a straigt line down the middle-- do I just use tape or is there a certain kind of tape -- any other suggestions to get an even line down the middle?

All of the sites that I have visited recommend tape, either low tack masking tape or drafting tape (which is less tacky and leaves a better finish). write back to let us know which you used and how it turned out.

The blue or green masking tape is made for this purpose. It doesn't peel the paint off when removing it. I would measure from the floor up, and not use a level. I think it's better to have the line match the floor and ceiling than to have a level line and it be straight and the floor and ceiling be a little off. Some older home are not a square and true as newer homes. Hanging chair rail over the line after the wall are painted would be a nice touch, it's not to expensive and the trim color would make a nice contrast. Good luck

Make a chalk line, and then use that as a guide for putting tape on the wall.
