Group Beta strep is acutally a normal vaginal bacteria that many women have. It has no side effects or symptoms in women, and is a normal, healthy vaginal flora. However, when a newborn is delivered vaginally and it comes into contact with it, the baby can get sick. Women who are pregnant are given IV antibiotics (usually a penicillin drug) during labor to prevent the infant from getting sick. If you are allergic to penicillin, many doctors give cleocin instead. Generally, the antibiotics are given 4-6 hours apart suring labor, and most pediatricians like for the mother to have received at least 2 doses prior to the baby's delivery to make sure the baby is covered. It is extremely common and nothing to worry about. Just make sure you remind your labor burse that you are GBS+. Good luck!

U can easily get group B strep by intra-oral germs or germs or bacteria in the throat and or mouth.... This could include drinking out of dirty glasses or oral sex with not so clean people or anything else in between.

Check out webmd.com . Research the info. I would imagine your unborn child would be susceptible to getting it
