If you really don't want to go to the dentist, you can just give it time.....eventually the chip will smoothen itself. I'm sure it will be quite annoying for a while, but you are right! Why pay for a chip that is not noticeable and you have no pain or discomfort.
I have never tryed it or heard of anyone doing this but.....maybe you could file it down with a nail file. The nail file is a little stronger grit than a dental finishing bur, but that sharp edge will be gone.

Hopefully you didn't crack the tooth all the way through. That is what usually happens--you just can't see it. If that's the case, you will end up losing the tooth if you don't get it fixed. As much as you don't want to--you should go to the dentist and get an xray. You may need a crown. There is nothing you can do to smooth it out on your own and you risk further damage by trying to file it yourself. Trust me.

This is not a permanant fix, you need to go to the dentist so he can seal it properly and it won't chip any further or get a cavity in it, but you can take an emory board and file it, just be careful and don't do it to much....

I have a number of chipped and broken teeth and I can tell you that if you don't get it checked out then it may get worse over time. It could take months or even years but there's no guarantee that it will stay the same size forever. There's nothing you can do about it on your own.

It needs to be taken care of at the dentist office as more could chip off and being rough you could wind up cutting yourself if the chip gets sharp. See the dentist and get this taken care of.

I know you don't want to hear this. But you need to go to the Dentist or buy a dentist tool that will make your teeth smooth. If you don't it will turn into a cavity and hurt like hell.

A sand blaster will smooth it and take off the rough edge.
