........ states otherwise. Let us not forget that this treaty was written not long after the founding of the US nation when many of the main players in the founding of the nation were still in power.
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
The mottos "In God we Trust" on coins came in 1861 after an appeal by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville
The "under God" phrase was added to the pledge in 1954 after a campaign by the Catholic fraternal society the Knights of Columbus.

Even if the Tripoli treaty didn't exist, we still know that the founding fathers, most of whom were men of faith, believed one's faith or moral philosophy to be a personal matter. They didn't conceive of the U.S.A. as a Christian nation, but took steps to insure that it would be a free nation, where every person has the right to follow his conscience in such matters and the government doesn't have the right to dictate what anyone must believe or not believe.

it particularly is my information that many historians have confidence that the Mr. Barlowe who's answerable for making the treaty further those words on his very own and that the only the surviving Arabic version of the Treaty of Tripoli does no longer incorporate the Christian u . s . a . word. additionally, purely 4 years after this Treaty of Tripoli grew to become into signed, a sparkling treaty grew to become into signed interior the Congress which failed to incorporate the word and in fact did bear witness to the Trinity. it particularly is believed that Mr. Barlowe, being a deist, wrote the unique treaty from his very own religious perspective.

The 1797 Treaty of Tripoli was actually drafted by Washington himself!!
I asked this same question a week ago - and it was deleted for "Personal communications" - obviously I offended someone with facts....
And, please note that "In God We Trust" was only put on coins in the State of Florida in 1861 - not the nation. It wasnt added to the nations coinage until the 1950's as well...
Here is a prediction: Several peoplee shall respond and say that "no one claims it was based on Christian RELIGION, only christian VALUES." Like splitting hairs changes the argument...

I agree! Also, many of our forefathers were Deists, not Christians, so they did not want any one religion in control
I do wish I had that writing by Thomas Jefferson that gave his viewpoint, as a Deist. I will keep looking for it. Anyone know what it is?

Wyvern I don't know about the rest of the Christian world but the Catholic Church is always right. As you should know the Pope is infallible and as he is the head of the church Catholic Church teachings can never be wrong.

Because some people make up their own facts based on what they want to be true and then spread the lies as truth, while conveniently ignoring facts.

it's just common knowledge that the majority of settlers that came here from England were leaving so that they might have religious freedom....not to change their denomination (which was Roman Catholic.....a CHRISTIAN denomination)...but to reform it.....look up the Puritans and maybe you'll see that.......
