I am able to save my apple documents as 'word' to open them on my pc but is there a way of doing the reverse and saving word documents so that they can be opened on a mac? Any advice would be much appreciated.

As cynical said; the newer macs should be able to read .doc files. The same file as what you would use on a PC. Should you have an older mac, this would require you saving it as a RTF (Rich Text) file.

Alternatively, you could download OpenOffice.org which will open all office documents and can act as an alternative to Microsoft Office: http://www.openoffice.org/

A Mac that isn't older than a few years should be able to read a word file. If not, you can save it as a .pdf or as previously stated, an rtf.

This information found in help in Office:-
Move files between Windows and the Macintosh
If you run Microsoft Office on your Apple computer, you can open any Office file that you create or store on a Microsoft Windows computer. For example, you can start Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or any other Office application on your iMac or iBook, and then use a network connection to locate and open the desired file on a PC.

Some Apple computers do not have floppy disk drives. If your Apple does not belong to a network and does not have a floppy drive, you can transfer files on CD or send them using e-mail.

Hope this helps.

record > save As... > Scroll down the record form menu until eventually you detect .record (Microsoft word ninety 3-2003 record) As on your OpenOffice question, as quickly as you open a record in a application, it is going to format it to seem community to that application, which will wreck compatibility with others, or perhaps distinctive variations of the comparable utility (hi, Microsoft). this is why place of work information very infrequently seem completely the comparable while considered for the era of distinctive purposes - they format issues in any different case. MS place of work 2007 makes use of a undeniable proprietary XML-based formatting that isn't artwork in quite lots the different place of work application. in spite of the undeniable fact that, this does not substitute the record form. the undeniable fact which you're seeing word icons is only exhibiting you that OpenOffice is long gone and that word is in fact your selected application to study .record/.docx with. Regardless, this does not substitute OpenOffice's preliminary formatting interior the record. So particular, that habit is favourite.

Yes, as previously stated RTF or PDF should work. If not then you can always go back to the old school and save it as ASCII code
