Do you live in the USA and have always wondered about the West Germanic language, Afrikaans ? I found and interessting website on the internet about a ex-South African guy that gives a complete online tutoral on Afrikaans. Afrikaans is predominantly spoken in South Africa and Namibia. In recent years the language has spread all over the world and there are now even native Afrikaans speakers in the USA, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. Afrikaans is also being presented as a undergrad subject at the University of Southern Califoria Los Angeles (UCLA) Brigham Young University and the University of Northern Carolina. I have found that it is an intriguing language...Quite unique, and fairly pretty to listen to.

However, my South African friend, who speaks it natively (as well as four other languages she had to learn in school), says that it's not even used in South Africa anymore.

I think it's great, though, to continue teaching it...I'd hate for the knowledge of it to be completely lost!
