I see the slogan "America, love it or leave it" used as a argument against people who want to change the US, or disagree with actions taken by the country, the Bush administration, or other leaders. To me, what makes the US so great is it's ability to change, grow, and adapt with what the people want.

For example, we used to have segregation. But then the country realized (for the most part) that we didn't want a segregated country. So the democratic process allowed the laws to change for the better.

In my opinion the "love it or leave it" slogan means you are against anyone who wants change for the country. But history has shown that for the most part, change and adaptation is healthy, natural, and good for a democratic country. So really, isn't the ones who want change or progress the ones who "love" the country. Even if you don't agree with the changes, you have to at least support their right to want change and listen to everyone's ideas.

I have absolutely no problem with change as long as it benefits us AMERICANS. I do, however, have a problem when the change is to benefit illegals and foreigners that move here not wanting to adapt to our way of living. If people want this place to be like THEIR home countries then they need to stay in their home countries. They come to America because they like America and it should continue to be America. If we start mimicking all the other foreign countries then we won't stand out as a nation but will blend in with everything else.

Not that I have a problem with foreigners moving here to better themselves, but I do have a problem with them expecting this place to change to suit them.

No way . If the country you live in is wrong about things as every country has been , then people who care most about their country will try to make a change for the better . The " love it or leave it " crowd believe that anything other than blindly following them makes you less patriotic . Their wrong , having a different view than them does not make a person less of a patriot . It sometimes takes much more patriotism to stand up to the government and say you are wrong .

The "love" part of a slogan certainly does NOT mean that one can love without criticizing. I love this country and everything it stands for, even if it really hasn't ever lived up to what it says it stands for. In drafting the power of this country into the Consititution by allowing its citizens to retain the right of vocal dissent, our founders have in effect created a more powerful and just government than the world had ever seen.
